To help catalyze a global market for conserving forests, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in Indonesia is working with the government- district, provincial and national- to build support a large scale REDD program in the district of Berau, East Kalimantan. This work seeks to initiate a forest carbon pilot program in Berau that tracks forest carbon emissions across the entire district and implements strategies to reduce emissions below a reference level.

Forest Carbon provided technical assistance to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in the creation of a large-scale REDD program in the district of Berau, East Kalimantan. This work seeks to initiate a forest carbon pilot program in Berau that tracks forest carbon emissions across the entire district and implements strategies to reduce emissions below a reference level. Forest Carbon activities included assessing the feasibility of using VCS or other voluntary carbon project standards with a district-wide carbon project. Additionally, a rapid process of identifying suitable REDD areas was developed.
